Christian Rommel was born in Bielefeld in 1965. He studied packaging design engineering in Japan and China. He emigrated to Hong Kong at the end of the 1990s. He founded the intercultural management consultancy ROX Asia, which he still runs today.
He is a long-standing fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He has published over a dozen non-fiction and specialist books and has produced documentary films on various expeditions. He has also made a private ethnographic collection for a planned adventure and experience museum.
His private and professional travels have taken him to over 150 countries, where he specialized in expeditions and pioneering journeys to meet ethnic minorities in South America, Central Africa and Asia.
His personal passion is the exploration of West New Guinea, which he has been conducting since 1994 with six consecutive jungle trekking expeditions and covering over 1,600 kilometers on foot. In spring 2025, Christian became the first person to complete the crossing of the 'Wild Island' by land and river via pioneering routes.
For more than ten years Christian Rommel has worked as a regional expert lecturer specialising in cultural history and as an expedition leader on expedition cruises for more than ten years. He leads several tours a year to South America, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean, the entire Pacific region, Australia, the Arctic and Antarctica.
