SEA CLOUD HUSSAR to be completed in autumn 2009

A new sister for the legendary SEA CLOUD:   135 metres long; some 4,000 square metres of sail and 69 luxury cabins – the largest passenger 3-master ever built

Hamburg, 13th September 2007. Legendary luxury sailing yachts SEA CLOUD and SEA CLOUD II will be getting a new sister. The largest full-rigged three mast passenger ship ever built is taking shape in a Spanish shipyard and will be com-pleted in September 2009. She will sail under the name SEA CLOUD HUSSAR.
“We are proud to be able to continue the SEA CLOUD legend with this new pro-ject,” emphasises shipping company owner and chairman of the board of Hansa Treuhand Holding AG, Hermann Ebel, at the presentation of the plans in Ham-burg. “The market’s response to our particular kind of nostalgic but modern cruises is overwhelming,” adds Konstantin Bissias, managing director of SEA CLOUD Cruises GmbH, who will be marketing the new ship.
The three-master will be 135 metres long; have a beam over 17 metres wide and a total sail area of approximately 4,000 squares metres distributed over 27 sails. Up to 136 passengers can be accommodated on board the new ship and will be cared for by 90 crew members. Just like its sisters the SEA CLOUD HUSSAR will be sailed in a traditional manner.
And not only will the method of sailing be traditional, but also the new ship’s name. The SEA CLOUD’s original name when it entered service in 1931 was ac-tually the HUSSAR. At that time, nearly 80 years ago, the ship represented the fulfilment of American millionairess Marjorie Merriweather Post-Hutton’s dream of possessing the largest, most beautiful private yacht of her era.
The SEA CLOUD HUSSAR is being built by a ship company within the Hansa Treuhand Holding AG group. SEA CLOUD CRUISES GmbH, who will be marketing the new ship – along with the historic SEA CLOUD and the additional three ships SEA CLOUD II, RIVER CLOUD and RIVER CLOUD II – also belongs to Hansa Treu-hand Holding AG. The group’s in-house shipping company, HANSA SHIPPING, is responsible for planning the new ship.

The interior design work will be carried out by noted Hamburg company Part-nership Design, who also designed the interiors for river cruise ships RIVER CLOUD and RIVER CLOUD II, taken into service in 1996 and 2001 respectively, as well as for ocean-going SEA CLOUD II. The new tall ship is being built at the Fac-toria de Naval Marin shipyard near the town of Vigo in Spain.
The new sailing yacht SEA CLOUD HUSSAR will bring the tradition of the legen-dary SEA CLOUD into the new millennium. The ship meets the highest technical demands while also allowing for environmentally aware propulsion technology. In addition to the sails, the main source of propulsion, the shipping company has selected a particularly environment friendly combined diesel-electric engine. In terms of design the new ship will have clear lines while still remaining true to its sisters’ romantic ideal.
The external appearance will leave no doubts regarding the ships’ close kin-ship: entirely in white; with intricate rigging; and with teak decks and superstruc-tures. In common with its sisters the figurehead on the bow will be the classic gold SEA CLOUD eagle. The interior design will be in a classically elegant style. In response to increased market demand in addition to the sailing experience a generous fitness and spa area will serve to help passengers relax. A technically sophisticated infotainment system in every cabin will connect passengers to the 21st century’s modern hi-tech world.

The 76 year old windjammer SEA CLOUD has a reputation as a legendary sailing yacht, whose fascinating history also influences all the other ships marketed by Hamburg ship-ping company SEA CLOUD Cruises GmbH. Whether on Europe’s most beautiful rivers with the RIVER CLOUD (built in 1996) and the RIVER CLOUD II (built in 2001) or on the world’s oceans from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean with the SEA CLOUD (built in 1931) and the SEA CLOUD II (built in 2001): luxury and the personal, private atmosphere of small intimate yachts are the common elements of all SEA CLOUD Cruises ships.
